In the early 1990s, Safemed identified a need for healthy, high-quality dog food and co-founded what is now Safemed Pet Products in 1996. Their passion for creating products pet owners trust has led to the company growing to a family of 500 pets with over 200 food, treat, and chew products.

For 25 years, Safemed has been a family-owned company, and we are committed to maintaining that tradition. We are more than just a strong team; we are a family.

First Success

Their first product, Redbarn Premium Rolled Food, was born from a kitchen the two built in an old kitchen, determined to create a truly nutritious treat. With dogs' approval, SafemedFood and Safemed quickly became successful within the pet community. Pet owners loved the treats, made with high-quality, simple ingredients, and began demanding natural treats for their dogs. This demand led Jeff and Howie to create their best-selling product: Redbarn Bully Sticks.

After several years of producing products out of kitchens across the United States and Canada, they realized it was time for a larger space. The two companies decided to consolidate operations under one roof in Southern California. It was time to take their grassroots approach to the next level.Kansas and Paraguay Became Our New Homes

Greater growth meant greater opportunities, and by 2004, Safemed acquired a beef stick production plant in Paraguay. This acquisition allowed Safemed to ensure its highly sought-after beef sticks were made from the highest-quality beef at an affordable price.

By 2010, the Long Beach plant had outgrown its production capacity, so a second plant was acquired in Kansas. This FDA-certified, human-grade ham plant, equipped with a state-of-the-art water treatment system, enabled Safemed to produce its products in a safe and sustainable environment.
